Introduction

When I first started numbering FFA charts, I included both male and female lines; hence, this female line of a former FFA member. IÕve decided to keep these female lines in place so as not to confuse the numbering system.

History

Elizabeth French was b. 1693 in New Castle on the Delaware. She was the daughter of Robert French and Mary (Sandelands) French. Robert French was born in Scotland and d. 8 Sep 1713 in Philadelphia, PA.

Elizabeth m. John Finney in 1730 and lived in New London, Chester Co., PA. She d. Apr 1740, then John Finney m2. Sarah Richardson ca. 1742, who died not long before her husband, leaving no issue. John d. 1774. They had at least 4 children. Elizabeth wrote poems. John Finney was b. 1690 in Londonderry, Derry, Ireland.

Isabella Trent, daughter of Maurice and Mary (Sandelands) Trent, was born in PA, and, losing her father in early childhood, was brought up by her mother and stepfather, Robert French, in New Castle on the Delaware. Through the will of Mr. French, she inherited, with her sister Eleanor Trent, and half-sister Catharine French, three lots of land in Upland, which they parted with on 29 Jul 1724.

Doctor John Finney and Elizabeth French Finney had a least 4 children:

á      David Finney, m. Ann Thompson, d. Aug 1742 in New Castle, DE.

á      Robert Finney, d. s. p. in 1771.

á      Elizabeth Finney of New Castle, spinster, May 30, 1788, when she parted with her interest in her fatherÕs house on Wood and Beaver Streets to her brother-in-law John Finney.

á      Anna Dorothea Finney, b. in 1735, m. John Finney.

Elizabeth FrenchÕs siblings were:

á      David French, a Recorder who worked with Col. John French, Mayor and Clerk of the Market.

á      Catharine French who m. John Shannon in 1724, d. 24 Jul 1747 (see #50 below)

á      Anne French, b. at New Castle on the Delaware, 20 Nov 1702, m1. James Gordon on 28 Nov 1717, m2. Colonel Nicholas Ridgely (see #51 below)

á      Elizabeth French (see #52 below)

á      Mary French who m. James Gardner (see #53 below)
