Children of Samuel J. Elburn and Minnie M. Smith, 5.12
Samuel and Minnie were married in 1886 and had 2 sons, Wilbur and Henry, who were adopted by the Confer family after Samuel J. Elburn had died and Minnie married Labon Confer. The DNA remains that of the Elburn family, so the line continues. Wilbur changed his name to Confer; however, his funeral rites list him as Elburn. His brother Henry always kept the Elburn surname.
6.13* Wilbur E. Elburn Sr., b. 13 Apr 1887, Miami Co., IN, d. 18 Feb 1939, Mexico, Cass Co., IN. He was a farmhand on the Casebeer Farm near New Waverly. He m. Edith M. Townsend in 1921, and they must have divorced by 1929 as she married WilburÕs half brother William Confer on 6 Sep 1928.

In the 1910 census of Pipe Creek, Miami Co., IN, Wilbur was a hired hand, age 22, living with the Prickett family. In this same census, Labon Confer 54, and Minnie Confer 41 are living with LabonÕs step son Henry Elburn 20, and Labon and MinnieÕs son William R. Confer, 7.

Edith M. Townsend was b. 6 Sep 1899 in Miami, IN, and d. 6 Nov 1969 in Wabash, IN, the daughter of Elijah and Ida (Dillman) Townsend. In 1939 Wilbur died. Edith did not die until 30 years later, in 1969, so she probably raised WilburÕs children as well as HenryÕs, as well as WilliamÕs. Wilbur and Henry had a half-brother, William Confer, of Peru, Cass Co., IN. Edith m3. William Confer in 1939 after WilburÕs death. William was the son of Labon Confer and Minnie Smith Elburn Confer and therefore William did not have Elburn DNA.

1862 Apr 27 – James Isaiah Elburn was born.
1870 census -- James Isaiah Elburn in District 4, Kent Co., MD; many errors in this census regarding names, but James is listed as age 9.
Could it be that the census recorder switched the names of Thomas and Louis, stating that Louis should have been Lemuel who was born in 1830, and Thomas should have been the one listed as age 11 or born in 1859, and that his name was actually James T. Elbourne. The 1860 census (the one before this 1870 census) shows Lemuel b. 1830, his wife Sarah C, age 21 (born in 1839), and James T., age 1.
1880 census -- shows James Elburn in Piney Neck, Kent Co., MD, living with his parents: John Elburn and Elizer Elburn, and he was a fisherman. Glenda Dierker is on this line and she states his parents were John Jackson "Jack" Elburn and Eliza Grant. Children of James Isaiah Elburn and Elizer Elburn are: James I. Elburn 18, b. 1862 Sarah L. Elburn 15, b. ca. 1865 John W. Elburn 13, b. ca. 1867, probably the W. stands for Walter Bertie Elburn 9, b. ca. 1871, dau., probably stands for Alberta Romane Elburn 8, b. May 1873, son.
The 1880 census shows James Elburn in Piney Neck,
Kent Co., MD, living with his parents: John Elburn and Elizer
Elburn, and he was a fisherman. I believe this to be the correct line as Glenda
Dierker is on this line and she states his parents were
John Jackson "Jack" Elburn and Eliza Grant. Children of James Isaiah
Elburn and Elizer Elburn are:
James I. Elburn 18, b. 1862
Sarah L. Elburn 15, b. ca. 1865
John W. Elburn 13, b. ca. 1867, the W. stands for Wesley or Walter, most likely
Walter
Bertie Elburn 9, b. ca. 1871, dau Alberta
Romane Elburn 8, b. ca. 1872, son
The enumeration date is 14 Jun 1880 at which time James would have been exactly 20, but here it states he is 18. Their neighbors were the Crouch, Benton, and Beck families, all of whom married into the Elburn family.
These are not the same siblings as are in the 1870 census. William Henry Elbourn appears as born 2 Feb 1862 in Langford, Kent Co., MD. George Washington Elbourn was born 5 Jul 1865. Then Mary E. was born in 1869 (I suspect she died young as she is not in the 1880 census). An older sibling listed in the 1870 census is Lemuel who is listed as Louis born in 1859.
Note: James is confused with many other men named James Elburn, born at the same time, who have different middle initials (James D., James J., James L., James I, and James T.), so the research has been difficult; but knowing that Alice was in every census record really helps with the research, except sometimes her name is spelled Elsie.
1892 Oct 27 -- James m. Alice Matilda Brady in Edesville, Kent Co., MD. She was b. 2 Jan 1875, Rock Hall, Kent, MD, d. 5 Mar 1961, Piney Neck, Rock Hall, Kent, MD, and is buried at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. She was the daughter of Henry Brady who was b. 1840 in Baden, Germany, and whose parents were born in Prussia. Her mother was born in England. Henry immigrated in 1853 at the age of 13. Henry was a farm labor and a widower in the 1880 census of Piney Neck, Kent Co, MD, living with his children Lillie M. Brady 14, Edward Brady 8, and Alice M. Brady 5 who married James I. Elburn in 1892. Edward was born in Nov 1871 according to the 1900 census of Edesville, Kent Co., MD. In the 1870 census of District 5, Kent Co., MD, Henry Brady was 30 and living with Caroline Brady age 26, and Laura Brady age 6, and a newborn, age 3/12. His daughter, Lillie, married William H. Capel in 1887 and Henry lived with them in the 1900 census of Edesville, Kent Co., MD. In the 1910 census, Henry was still living with the same daughter and her family, but in Crumpton, Queen AnneÕs Co., MD. Alice and James had at least 7 children.
1900 census -- James 38 (born 1862) and Alice 24 are living with their children Russell C. 9, Henry J. 4, James W. 2, and William E. 8/12 in Edesville, Kent Co., MD.
This is the first reliable census to check for this family and go back to find the siblings of James and differentiate them from many other lines. In this 1900 census, James is listed as ÒJames J. ElburnÓ on ancestry.com index; however, the original is very difficult to read as it has marks over it and the transcriber should have transcribed it as ÒIÕ instead of ÒJÓ. Some of their relatives appear on the same page; namely, Joseph L. and Harriett V. Elburn with their 5 children, and Owen Elburn with his aunt Mary V. Elburn (b. Aug 1862) and his cousin Sarah E. Elburn (b. Nov 1883). Also, at the bottom of that same page, is David Elburn and his wife Sarah R. Nearby are familiar surnames: Beck, Grant, and Crouch. On the next page is Liza M. Elburn, b. May 1843, a widow, formerly married to an Elburn. Considering the proximity these Elburns to one another, they must be from the same family.
In 1900 he is living near the Kendall, Vansant, Crouch, Beck, and Ashley families (all married Elburns); this information doesnÕt seem to give us any extra clues. He is also living near Joseph and Harriett Elburn, Owen and his aunt Mary Elburn, and David and Sarah Elburn, and widow Liza M. Elburn, and Romie and Ella Elburn, and Samuel Elburn and his family. All these Elburns are descendants of James Elburn born 1769, but it still doesnÕt tell us who were the parents of James Isaiah Elburn. In the 1870 census, he is listed as the son of Thomas and Sarah C. Elburn, but perhaps the Thomas is an error and should be Lemuel, as Sarah C. married Lemuel. No Thomas born 1830 can be found, but Lemuel born 1830 can be found in many records. He lived in Piney Neck, Kent Co., MD.
1910 census of Edesville, James and ÒElsieÓ were living with their 7 children: Russell P., Jackson H., William E., Violet M. 7, Edora M. 5, James W. L. 3, and Teannie E 0/12. Perhaps the Liza Elburn listed in the previous census is the same one listed nearby in 1910 as Eliza Elburn, age 72, b. 1838, living alone, but next door to James Isaiah Elburn. Eliza Grant was b. 18 May 1837 in Piney Neck and d. Sep 1926 in Rock Hall. This would indicate that Eliza Grant was the mother of James Isaiah Elburn.
Only because a man named Lemuel Thomas, born in 1857 shows up as a ÒboarderÓ in the household of Eliza Grant Elburn, widowed, in the 1910 census, I would assume he was related to Sarah C. In the 1910 census, Eliza Grant Elburn and Lemuel Thomas are living next door to James I. Elburn and his wife Elsie, actually (a similar pronunciation) Alice Matilda Brady. Sarah C. was born in 1841, Lemuel Thomas may have been her brother. In the 1860 census, Sarah C. Thomas would be 19 and Lemuel Thomas would be 3. Lemuel Thomas is listed in the 1860 census of District 1, Kent Co., MD living with his parents Lucian Thomas 37 and Catherine Thomas 22. In the 1910 census of Edesville, Eliza Grant Elburn, 72, is living with boarder Lemuel Thomas, 53, or born in 1857.

Leimbach, along with many others from the Leimbach family. His Death Certificate states he was born 26 Sep 1867 and died 11 Nov 1938, his wife was Mary Elburn, his father was Jackson Elburn, and his mother was Eliza M. Grant.
